BREAKING: YCSD School Board Drives the 2024 YCSD Teacher of the Year to Resign

This evening, at the May 20th YCSD school board meeting, Grafton reading specialist Stephanie Pressley announced that she is leaving YCSD due to the climate created by the new school board being not “conducive to the type of academic excellence” she strives to achieve. Ms. Pressley is the 2024 YCSD Grafton Middle School Teacher of the Year, the YCSD Middle School Teacher of the year, and the overall YCSD Teacher of the Year. Additionally, she was the Teacher of the Year in the last school district she served. She is at least the second teacher to explicitly point the finger at the new school board as the reason for her departure from YCSD.

Much more news was made tonight and we will share all of it later, but for us here at SaveYCSD, this was the kind of loss we feared the most: amazing educators choosing to leave York County due to a school board hostile to teachers and public education.
