The current YCSD board members were chosen through a free and fair election. They received the backing, funding and labor of people and groups that worked hard to elect candidates that supported their ideological agenda. Unfortunately, many of us weren’t paying enough attention to the school board race. But we are now.

The board we have now does not need to be the board we have in the future. We can come together as a community of concerned individuals and organizations to recruit, support and elect a new slate of school board candidates. The work of electing new school board members needs to begin now and continue until election day.

YCSD students, teachers and staff deserve a board that supports all of them; a board that is steadfast and true. In order to give them that board, we need to remain steadfast and work step by step toward the goal of new school board members.

The York County School Division and its wonderful reputation wasn’t achieved overnight and it will take vigilance to maintain it. With cooperation, collaboration and hard work, the future of YCSD schools is bright!

  • Vote - Register to vote (online or by mail), confirm your registration, update your address if you’ve moved, request an absentee ballot and find a polling place at York County Voter Registration.

  • Coalition building - If you belong to an organization, club or group whose mission and mindset aligns with #SaveYCSD’s, consider joining forces. A coalition of many organizations can bring a lot to the table. We may be able to accomplish more if we work together.

  • Welcome all like-minded folks - The greater the diversity we have within our ranks, the stronger we will be. We don’t have to agree on all things, we just need to agree on this thing.

  • Tell a friend - People are busy and many are unaware of the current state of the YCSD Board. Let your friends know what’s happening. Invite them to get involved.

  • Don’t give up -We’re in this for the long haul because our goals will not be realized overnight. If you grow weary, don’t quit, instead take a break. Share tasks with a friend. Cheer others on. This will become particularly important when the novelty of the board members’ initial antics fade and they are no longer newsworthy.
